Immortality

From The Mahabharata, Santi Parva Yudhishthira said : Having acquired great power and great wealth, and having obtained a long period of life, how may one succeed in avoiding death? By which of these means, viz., penances, or the accomplishment of the diverse acts (laid down in the Vedas), or by knowledge of the Srutis, or the application of medicines, can one succeed in avoiding decrepitude and death? Bhishma said : In this connection is cited the old narrative of Panchasikha who was a Bhikshu (mendicant) in his practices and Janaka. Once on a time Janaka, the ruler of the Videhas, questioned the great Rishi Panchasikha, who was the foremost of all persons conversant with the Vedas and who had all his doubts removed in respect of the purpose and import of all duties. The King said : By what conduct, O holy one may one transcend decrepitude and death? Is it by penances, or by the understanding, or by religious acts (like sacrifices and vows), or by study

Freedom & Bondage

From The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi Edited by David Godman Liberation is our very nature. We are that. The very fact that we wish for liberation shows that freedom from all bondage is our real nature. It is not to be freshly acquired. All that is necessary is to get rid of the false notion that we are bound. When we achieve that, there will be no desire or thought of any sort. So long as one desires liberation, so long, you may take it, one is in bondage. It is false to speak of realisation. What is there to realise? The real is as it is always. We are not creating anything new or achieving something which we did not have before. The illustration given in books is this. We dig a well and create a huge pit. The space in the pit or well has not been created by us. We have just removed the earth which was filling the space there. The space was there then and is also there now. Similarly we have simply to throw out all the age-long  samskaras  (innate tendencie

Intelligence of Water

Do Elements display consciousness and intelligence? Our bodies are composed from the five elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. The all pervading conciousness pervades these five elements also. The following article refers to various experiments that show that Human thoughts, emotions and sounds can change water crystal's shape. Dr Masaru Emoto from Japan has spent many years studying water. His cutting-edge research into the relationship between  water and thoughts has stunned the world . He was featured in the popular movie: What the BLEEP Do We Know. Water when frozen, can show its conscience in the form of crystals. As we all know, water has many well researched properties which make it the main life supporter of the planet. But there's something about water that the mainstream science tries to ignore and deny, and it is the water consciousness, or the capacity of water to record and store information and to react to vibrational influences .Howe

Time & Creation

Sri Ramana Maharshi :   All metaphysical discussion is profitless unless it causes us to seek within the Self for the true reality. All controversies about creation, the nature of the universe, evolution, the purpose of God, etc., are useless. They are not conducive to our true happiness. People try to find out about things which are outside of them before they try to find out ‘Who am I?’ Only by the latter means can happiness be gained. [Note: Comments by David Godman: Sri Ramana Maharshi had little or no interest in the theoretical side of spirituality. His principal concern was to bring people to an awareness of the Self and, to achieve this end, he always insisted that practice was more important than speculation. Sri Ramana was known to have views which were totally at variance with the common- sense view of the world. As with most other topics he tailored his statements to conform to the different levels of understanding he encountered in his questioners, but e
